It's Friday!

It's been a good week. Busy but good. Yesterday, I was driving along to work and listening to the radio and all of a sudden Maggie says "Mom, am I going to school today?". I was almost at work and had completely forgotten to take her to school! My Mom asked how I could forget when Maggie is so talkative? I can't really remember if she was talking and I tuned her out or if she was actually being quite for once..... That made me feel bad at first but then I realized I have officially become a Mom. I always wondered how parents could tune out the whining and constant talking of a child and I think I have finally learned how! Not that it's a good thing but I guess I'm normal. I try to be fairly attentive to Maggie when she is talking to me but there are so many times that she is just singing or pretending to talk to her class and I will say "what babe?" and she will say "I wasn't talking to you Mom!" So I guess that is why I tuned her out yesterday. That was really fun to have to circle back around in AM traffic! Of course she had to remind me about it again in the car this morning.
This weekend will be a packed one. We have a birthday party at the McWane Center tomorrow which will be fun and then me and Jason and some friends are going to the UAB homecoming game. I'm looking forward to the cool air for some football weather. Sunday, I have to study some. I have this test on Wednesday and the instructor said there is a high failure rate. I want this over and not have to study ever again! Of course that is what I said last time I had to take licensing tests for work but this time has been miserable.
I hope everyone has a good weekend and I will psot some pictures soon, I promise!

Sorry for the delay

Okay, I got an angry phone call from Aunt Cheryl because I haven't posted in awhile so here I am. I have been studying for this test lately and lost track of time in the blogger world!
This past weekend was fairly quite but I did spend 7 1/2 hours shopping! I participate in a kids clothes consignment sale twice a year and the contributors get to shop before the public. I got some great things for Maggie's Fall/Winter wardrobe but her favorite was of course the cheerleader outfit for 6 bucks. She thought it was the coolest thing and had to wear it immediately.
On Sunday, we hung around the house until afternoon time and she looked at baby pictures with Daddy while I cleaned. Her newest obsession is "where do babies come from". Of course I am vague in my answers but she wants to know more. She went down for a nap and got up immediately saying "God put me inside your belly" like she had a revelation during naptime. I was happy with that answer so we left it alone but not for long. She then asked why her belly button was bleeding in one of the pictures, so I had to explain the whole umbilical cord thing. She had a disgusted look on her face but then was okay with that one. She also asked how she got out of my belly.... I told her the truth in my case which was the Dr cut her out. She just said oh in a nonchalant kind of way. I'm afraid I won't be able to easily explain things away for very much longer. I'm grateful that she is very smart and inquisitive but come on! A 3 year-old that wants to know why and how on everything is making me tired.
She had a good day at school on Monday but her teacher is no longer with the school which I hate. She really loved Ms Beth but now Ms Amy will be in her class and she absolutely loves Maggie. As for school, I need to update that she now can say all of the months of the year by heart as well as the weekdays. She also can name her vowels and if I name a letter she can tell me if it's a consonant or a vowel. She also has learned to write all of the vowels and is working on consonants now. I couldn't do that at her age but the schools now are so advanced in their teaching that it's scary. Hopefully she doesn't get burned out at 5!
I'll try to load some pictures of her cheerleading outfit tonight. Have a good week!

Maggie and Grace (her cousin)

Paw Paw Bobby sent this one to me today. He titled it "Girls Gone Wild"....

I'm Back!

I just returned from Atlanta. I'm glad the class is over but now I have to study for the next two weeks which is not fun for me.....
Overall, the weekend was a good one. We went to the aquarium with Maggie and she had a blast! She then went to Mee Mom and Paw Paw Bobby's house for a visit until the next day while we met a friend to watch some football Saturday night. She had a great time and got to go to her cousin's one-year old birthday party! Maggie loves parties!! Jason and some friends got Maggie and returned to Bham on Sunday and left me in Atlanta for class on Monday:-(

Maggie had made up her mind that she wanted to be a puppy for halloween but then we had a really hard time finding a costume. There aren't many puppy costumes other than dalmations which she was not happy with. We then ran across a cat costume which she wanted so we went ahead an got it so we could be prepared! Now she has changed her mind and wants to be a cheerleader.... I tried to be proactive and now she is determined to be a cheerleader, what's up with that? I want her to have a say so in it but I thought the cat costume was cute. I'm not ready for her to be making her own desicions!! Oh well, I guess I will have to live with it or she will have a miserable halloween.

I'm so excited that it's almost Fall. That is my favorite time of year. Maybe Maggie can get outside more often since it's cooled down and maybe mosquitos will be gone soon....
Enjoy the pictures from the aquarium.

Maggie the Cheerleader

Mid-week update

Maggie has found her calling....cheerleading! We went to the local ball fields Monday night because Jason works with some guys that have kids on the football team and we wanted to see if Maggie liked the ball field life since I grew up at one. Well, she loved it. She liked seeing all of the people and watching the game but most of all, she was enthraled with the cheerleaders and said she wanted to do that! That would be my luck. I was a complete tomboy and grew up playing sports and now I might have a girl that's a cheerleader. Before anyone stones me for that comment, I do consider cheerleading a sport to an extent but it's not what I expected of my offspring. She thought those girls where the coolest. Maybe she will be one of those that cheers and plays softball. I could handle that... I will post some pictures of her cheering tonight.
Today my employer offered a "lunch and learn" regarding working moms. I'm happy to say that I do a pretty good job as a working mom. Nothing seemed to surprise me very much about what the psycologist had to say but she did remind me of several things. I need to stop trying to be super mom! There is no such thing as a perfect wife or mom and I need to just strive to be an outstanding working mom. She also talked about scientific proof that kids of working moms tend to be more well rounded because of daycare exposure, etc. That made me feel better.
I hope everyone is having a great week. We will be traveling to Atlanta this weekend for some fun and then I will b e staying there through Tuesday for the series 24 class (work licenses). I hope to have good pictures from the aquarium!

Today is a weird day for me. Of course it is the anniversary of 9/11 and that got me going this morning. When the moment of silence occured, I was in my car on hwy 280. The radio went silent and so did everything else around me it seemed. It was very weird and sad. This whole day seems sad to me and all I seem to think about is what Maggie will experience in her lifetime. I hope she never has to experience an event as devastating as 9/11 or Pearl Harbor. Of course she will learn about them in school but it's just different to live through that moment and relive it each year on the anniversary. The other night I was looking at her baby book and saw where I had wrote things about the day/week she was born. We were going to war in Iraq and I wrote about her Uncle Mark and how he may have to go. Thank God he went and came back safely and fairly quickly but what happens next? What kind of wars and tragedies will she experience in her lifetime? I know I can't worry about it because God is in control but I can't help but think about it at times. Another thing I noticed in her book was gas cost $1.53 the day she was born! I do remember when gas was under a $1 but only 3 years ago it was a whole dollar less than it is now......
This weekend was a good one. I started off Friday evening by visiting a friend's new baby in the hospital. He is a healthy 9 lbs and as cute as can be. I felt very comfortable holding him but at the same time I could not imagine doing it all over again and still working full time.
Saturday was good. We went to some garage sales, watched football, took clothes to the kids consignment sale, and went to Pet-a-Palooza with Gracie. She loved that!
Sunday was our bowling day. I hope everyone's weekend was good and let's get through this week!

Yesterday was Jason's birthday. He is officially old like me! Unfortunately it was a typical weekday so not that exciting. But we did go to the Comedy Club last night. That was fun.
Wednesday evening, I picked up Maggie and we went shopping for Daddy's birthday. We had decided that his bowling gear would actually be from me and he could have the $ that Mom gave him to shop for what he wanted or needed. But then I felt like I needed to get him something small to open on his actual birthday... Maggie and I picked out a Alabama T Shirt because he had just said that he wished he had something to wear on gamedays. We get home and immediately Maggie says, "Daddy we got you a shirt for your birthday!". She had recently done the same thing on my birthday and Paw Paw's birthday so I said "Maggie" in a disappointed tone I guess. Well this made her bust out in tears. We had to let her know that it wasn't worth crying over but she has to learn to keep a secret when it comes to birthday gifts!!
Tonight I have to get Maggie's old clothes ready for a consignment sale but other than that, no real plans for the weekend. Maybe we will go to some garage sales in the morning. We haven't done that in a while and we find good books for Maggie at those sales!
I hope everyone has a great weekend and I'll post again soon.

She has to get dirty!!

Maggie the Artist

A Cool Spider We found While in the Yard

The long weekend

We ended up having a full weekend. Saturday was Trey's 4th birthday party and Maggie had a blast. She took a good nap after that and then we went to a friend's house for a football kick-off party. We also celebrated Jason's upcoming birthday with cake.
Sunday we worked around the house. Jason did some yard work while I cleaned inside. Maggie went down for an early nap because of our busy day before. We then went bowling with Bryan and then he and Ann came over to watch movies. While we were waiting on the guys to return with the movies, a firetruck and police car parked in front of our house which got Maggie all excited. Our neighbors had a baby last week so I immediately thought it was her! It turns out the baby was choking so they called 911. They got her breathing again but took her to the hospital for observation. She is fine now but Maggie was obsessed the rest of the evening and the next day. She was so worried about the baby and why she was taken to the hospital. We had to sit down and talk about it several times.....
Monday was more working around the house and then bowling. Maggie and I just watched Daddy, Bryan and Bobby play. I will post some pictures of the weekend after this post.

Reading is Fun

We Love Sleep

I was just thinking about sleep and how much we love it! Maggie has always been a good sleeper but she does go through spells where it's hard to get her to lay down but once she's gone, we are good to go!
I find one thing funny though. On weekdays, we have to wake her up in order to get to school and work on time. 99% of the time she wakes up in a good mood, so we are very blessed in that area. But on weekends, she always wakes up earlier and that kills me! She will wake up around 5:30 on a weekend but we have to wake her up at 6:45 on a weekday. What is up with that!! I guess our movements and noises in the mornings keeps her asleep but when it's quiet after 5:00 am, she just has to get up.
Anyway, enjoy the pictures I took of her this morning trying to wake her up....

A Long Weekend!!

The past couple of days have been normal for us. We rush around the house in the morning getting everybody ready. I drive Maggie to school and then go to work. Jason and I work through the day and then go home..... Seems pretty boring and for the most part, it is. But I do have to say, I enjoy our weeknights because we usually don't have much to do. Our weekends are always packed with outings and entertainment so the nights on the couch at home are cherished. I know the day will come when Maggie has softball practice, karate (Aunt Cheryl can teach her!), piano, etc every night so I am truly enjoying our weeknights at home. We usually do dinner then bath, read some books and then go to bed. Sometimes I wish I was not a Mom that worked outside the home and had more time with her but other times I thank God that he led me down the career path because I would not be a a good full-time homemaker. I have the utmost respect for those who are because I'm only a good Mom or wife in short spurts. Maggie and I are toooooo much alike and would butt heads all day long! I'm so happy she enjoys school because that makes it easier on me to leave her everyday. She asks why she can't go to school on Saturdays! I know that may change but I'm going to enjoy it for now.
This weekend is a long one, YEA! But it's full already with birthday parties and football gatherings.(Go Bama and Go Dawgs) I hope everyone has a great weekend and I will post some pictures tomorrow or Sunday. I haven't made time to sit at the computer and download them....
